When talking about international, live rock concert festivals, that has showcased talent and influenced many for decades, there is really only one that has endured and comes to mind: the Vans Warped Tour. Bands, new and old, attempt to be a part of this grand journey every year, with the hopes that they can rock the house at one of the year’s biggest venues.
The Vans Warped Tour was the brainchild of Kevin Lyman, in partnership with the skateboard shoe company Vans, out in California back in 1994. Lyman, influenced by the growth of another popular music festival, Lollapalooza, wanted to combine the cultures of ska/punk rock and skateboarding and felt that there was a large market to achieve his goal. After Vans originally contacted him to organize a skating festival in California, Lyman, seeing the connection, decided to merge the idea into his rock music festival. Eventually, the show expanded enough to include pop rock, hardcore rock, and metal acts. By 1998, in just 4 short years, the tour had gone from local to national to international, with venues in Europe, Canada, Japan, and Australia. Today, Warped Tour features up to 100 bands per show, with established acts in the scene, as well as up-and-comers trying to make a name for themselves. The large outdoor festival has stayed current as well, recently mixing it up by including some hip-hop acts and MC’s. In addition to being internationally known, Warped Tour is now one of the longest running annual national tours in the United States.
We here at Music Zone are proud to be associated with the Vans Warped Tour. As a standard in the music touring industry, the Vans Warped Tour has been innovative and creative where others lack it, and started new trends that have become the norm in the field. Going into our 3rd year with Warped Tour, we know that we aspire to one day be as recognized as them. So come out July 25th-27th and get “Warped” with Music Zone! Look out for and come visit our Music Zone booth at all the Florida-area shows!
